Marker Rods

Marker rods are used for scoping out the water you’re about to fish, and are most often used by anglers who are going to spend two or three (or more) days on an unfamiliar water. Although some anglers suggest that a second carp rod will do the same work as a marker, there’s a lot to be said for investing in rod that is built with a specific task in mind. Most marker rods are exponentially softer than traditional carp rods, so give a much clearer feel as to what is going on under the surface of the water. Not only that, but marker rods give a greater cast than a traditional carp rod, enabling you to find more features that might be of interest a lot quicker. Marker rods not only give you a clear idea of the depth of the water, but also provide a picture of the features of the water bed. This is essential information, especially when fishing for bottom feeders like carp, as it can really determine not only what kind of bait you use but also where you place it. For many anglers, a marker rod is an essential bit of kit that puts their catch rates head and shoulders about the rest. Clearly, there’s a lot to be said for knowing what is going on under the surface of the water.
